Academic Hospitalist

The Division of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine has an immediate opening for an academic hospitalist at the University of Maryland Medical Center-Midtown Campus.  This service provides 24/7 coverage for inpatient medicine floors at our affiliated hospital located in downtown Baltimore.  The bulk of the service will be in a teaching capacity with UMMC Midtown Campus house-staff, as well as non-teaching attending responsibilities on the Post-Acute Unit, Orthopedic pre-op evaluation, consultation on the inpatient Psychiatry Unit, and non-designated service patients.

Candidates must be board certified/board eligible in Internal Medicine and eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the State of Maryland.  Ideal candidates will possess outstanding clinical and teaching skills and a strong committment to patient care.  Expected faculty rank is Assistant Professor or higher, however, final rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.

Academic Hospitalist (3-309-1008)

The General Internal Medicine Division in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine has an opening for an academic hospitalist at the University of Maryland Medical Center-Midtown Campus (UMMC-MTC) located in downtown Baltimore.   This position will provide daytime coverage on one of our inpatient internal medicine teaching services.  The bulk of the service will be in a teaching capacity with UMMC Midtown Campus house-staff, as well as students from the University of Maryland School of Medicine assigned to this service as part of their internal medicine clerskhip rotation.  This position will also provide some non-teaching rclinical coverage on aPost-Acute Unit located within the hospital. 

Ideal candidates will possess outstanding clinical and teaching skills, and a strong commitment to quality patient care.  All candidates must be board certified/eligible in internal medicine and eligible for an unrestricted license in the State of Maryland.  Expected faculty rank is Assistant Professor or higher, however, rank, tenure status and salary will be dependent upon selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.  We offer an excellent salary and benefits package.

Physician Advisor/Attending Physician (3-309-1014)

The University of Maryland School of Medicine and Medical Center are recruiting a full-time internist for a non-tenure track faculty position.  The bulk of the responsibilities for this position will be in an administrative capacity, working as a Physician Advisor for the University of Maryland Medical Center.  Duties of this position will be to collaborate with medical staff leadership, clinicians, and care management leaders to develop and implement methods to optimize use of hospital services for all patients, as well as educate and inform medical staff regarding issues of compliance, medical necessity and resource utilization. 

This individual will be expected to develop solutions for difficult discharges in collaboration with care management staff and community partners, participate in strategic planning and interventions to optimize payment of care delivered in the hospital and will serve as a liaison between utilization management and clinical service lines, as well as between payers and treating physicians.  Working with hospital leadership, he/she will ensure medical practices will achieve quality/patient safety and resource management goals, will act as a clinical consultant providing medical expertise regarding physician practice patterns and will function in accordance with CMS Hospital Conditions of Participation for Utilization Review and other applicable regulatory, compliance, and accrediting requirements.  Clinical responsibilities will include inpatient attending coverage on one of our general medical and/or inpatient hospitalist teams for up to two months per year.

Hospitalists for the Division of General Internal Medicine (3-309-1020)

The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting full time hospitalists.  These positions will provide inpatient attending coverage on our non-teaching services. We staff our observation unit, general internal medicine non-teaching service, and transplant medicine service. We also provide medical consultations for general medicine, transplant medicine, and co-management of surgical services.  Please indicate in your response if you have a special interest in transplant medicine.  Opportunities for full-time nocturnists are also available.

Intermediate Care Hospitalist (3-309-1027)

The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting a full time Intermediate Care Hospitalist.  This service provided 24/7 inpatient coverage and serves to expedite transfers from our acute care units, the Emergency Department and the Medical Intensive Care Unit.  The IMC team helps to reduce length of stay in the ER and on the acute services, costs per case and re-admission rates, as well as increase admissions to the medical service, free up beds in the intensive care unit for more critically ill patients, ensure that 80-hour weekly limit on duty hours is enforced for residents, and direct admissions as needed.  While this is a non-teaching service, opportunities are available for teaching.

Clinician Educator (3-309-1029)

The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting a full time internist.  Clinical responsibilities include participation in our faculty group practice with ten other internists, medical student teaching and supervision of residents in both inpatient and outpatient settings.  This position may also provide inpatient attending on our general medical service.
