Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)
General COVID-19 Information
A new coronavirus is spreading around the world after being discovered in China in December, 2019. Because the virus can cause a Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) the virus is called SARS-CoV-2. It is related to other viruses that can cause similar syndromes. The disease caused by this new virus is called COVID-19.
COVID-19 can cause symptoms of the common cold or serious respiratory disease requiring life support. Current estimates are that COVID-19 is fatal in approximately 2% of cases.
