Child Day Hospital

The Child Day Hospital (Partial Hospitalization Program) is temporarily closed at this time.

It serves up to eight children a day, five days a week (M-F). The average length of stay can vary from one to two weeks. The program provides treatment to children in the Baltimore City area, ages 5-12, who are experiencing mental illness, behavioral difficulties, and significant dysfunction at school, home, or in the community.

Thorough Assessment Plan

The Child Day Hospital provides assessment and treatment for a wide variety of mental health issues. Often, children are faced with emotional conditions in addition to various learning, language, speech, and other developmental disorders. Children with more than one mental health disorder, or co-morbid illness, are diagnosed and treated within our program.

Extended Treatment Period and Plan

The Child Day Hospital offers an extended treatment period, which is approximately one to two weeks. During this time, our team develops and provides an effective understanding of the issues and a treatment plan for the patient and his or her family. If a child needs stabilization in a more intensive setting, the Child Day Hospital offers direct admission to our own Short-Term Inpatient Hospitalization Program in collaboration with our Psychiatric Assessment and Referral Center (PARC) office.

Patients in the Child Partial Hospitalization Program receive:

  • Medication management
  • Family therapy
  • Group therapy
  • School
  • Occupational therapy
  • Needs-based group activities

Psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, licensed clinical counselors, occupational therapists, child psychiatric residents, Baltimore City school teachers, and mental health associates all work collaboratively within this multidisciplinary milieu.
