Donor Registry

The gift of human tissue at the time of death or surgery by people of all ages, especially those afflicted with a genetic or developmental disorder, is the most precious resource on which medical researchers depend to study diseases for new treatments and cures. It is in human tissues, particularly the brain, that many dysfunctions occur and manifest themselves. By examining these tissues, comparing the unaffected with the affected, or by comparing different age groups, medical researchers begin to answer endless questions.

Unfortunately, the availability of tissue is limited especially for those scientists studying many childhood disorders including autism, Fragile X syndrome, adrenoleukodystrophy, Rett syndrome, Lowe syndrome and many more.

A donor registry has been established. Thousands of individuals have already registered with the Bank to become tissue donors. The process is easy. Should you have any questions, at any time, even after you have registered, please do not hesitate to contact us. Remember, you can withdraw your registration at any time if you change your mind in the future.

The UMB Brain and Tissue Bank works with bona fide support groups for developmental disorders without bias or preference for one support group over another. Indeed, it is the joint effort of all groups that will overcome the problem of the limited supply of human tissue for a broad range of medical and scientific research.
