The Tissue Donation Process

Once a registration has been submitted by the donor or the donor’s next-of-kin (NOK), the UMBTB will use guidelines established by the NIH NeuroBioBank network to determine if the donor is eligible to donate.

The donor or the donor’s NOK will receive notice that the registration has either been confirmed or rejected based on eligibility criteria.

After you have received confirmation of registration with UMBTB, please be sure that any medical and/or funeral personnel are aware of your registration and the necessary steps to ensure donation.

When death becomes imminent and as soon as possible after the donor’s death, please be sure to call (410) 706-1755 or 1-800-847-1539 so that the UMBTB is aware of the death and can handle all necessary practical arrangements for the tissue recovery.
