Welcome from the Vice Dean
Dear New University of Maryland School of Medicine Faculty,
Welcome to the University of Maryland School of Medicine! In previous years, we would have welcomed you personally in a New Faculty Orientation session held in October. However, everything is different this year, and we apologize for the delay in welcoming you and providing a formal orientation to the UMSOM.
The New Faculty Orientation (NFO) this year is a virtual event that is organized into four one-hour blocks. The format of the NFO is described in a letter from Drs. Silke V. Niederhaus and Ada I. Offurum, the Associate and Assistant Deans for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development.
Please take a moment to read the welcome letter from Drs. Niederhaus and Offurum that introduces the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development (OFAPD), along with several other useful documents. Click here to access New Faculty Orientation.
The NFO contains important and useful information concerning the UMSOM, and completion of the NFO is mandatory for all new faculty. The four sessions comprising the NFO can be completed at any time of your choosing but must be completed by June 1, 2021.
Please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Niederhaus, Dr. Offurum, or me if you have any questions about the NFO or anything to do with faculty affairs at the UMSOM. If we don’t know the answer to your question, we can connect you with the appropriate people and resources.
Again, welcome to the University of Maryland School of Medicine. On behalf of Dean E. Albert Reece and all of the leaders of the UMSOM, we wish you great success during your career here.
With best regards,
James B. Kaper, PhD
