I am Associate Professor of Neurology, University of Maryland School of Medicine and Baltimore Veteran Health Administration Medical Center and Medical Director of the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) Neurology Care Center and member of the UMMC Brain Attack Team. My ongoing research interests include epidemiology of stroke in young adults, stroke genetics, vocational outcomes after stroke, stroke prevention and acute stroke treatment.  I served as local site PI or co-investigator at UMMC for clinical trials of stroke prevention (PROFESS, VISP, AASPS, CLOSURE I, WASID and POINT) and stroke treatment (PROACT II, ALIAS, SHINE).   I am involved in community outreach and education and partnering with spoke hospitals for referral of stroke patient’s for tertiary stroke therapies and participation in clinical stroke trials.  As an active clinician in both the outpatient and acute-care hospital settings, I specialize in acute stroke treatment, secondary stroke prevention in the young stroke patients and MELAS.
