Ms. Parsons earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. Her major field of study was laboratory science. She earned a Master of Science degree at the University of Connecticut, School of Allied Health with a concentration in allied health education and research. Ms. Parsons also pursued specialist in blood banking and transfusion medicine studies at the Beth Israel New England Deaconess Hospital and holds American Society of Clinical Pathology certification as a medical laboratory scientist and specialist in blood banking.
Working at the Department of Medical and Research Technology, University of Maryland School of Medicine in different capacities since 1994, she has served as Assistant Professor, Director of Student Affairs and, since 2003, undergraduate Program Director. Her areas of interest include transfusion medicine and engaging all generations of learners through innovative approaches in teaching, training and facilitation.
