Biosketch

I am an Infectious Diseases and HIV physician. I attended Medical School in Germany, and completed an 18 month internship in Internal Medicine/Infectious Diseases at the Charite in Berlin. Subsequently, I gained experience in tropical medicine in Sudan and at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. I then moved to New York City for vaccine and immunology research, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases Fellowship. I spent 1 year at the Medical Research Council in The Gambia researching immune responses to tuberculosis and providing care for HIV-infected patients. I joined the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases and the Institute of Human Virology in 2010 as assistant professor and served as an infectious diseases consultant for critically ill patients, HIV physician, teacher and researcher in international HIV and TB work in Haiti. I received training in anal cancer screening and high resolution anoscopy and started a dedicated anal cancer screening clinic at the Midtown Campus (ALERT clinic). Since late 2015, I continue clinical care, research and teaching as volunteer faculty.
