University Student Financial Assistance News
Spring 2017 Loan Returns
Have you borrowed too much money? Loan returns can be processed by appointment only on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday between the hours of 9:30 am – 3:30 pm. A check or debit card is required to process a return. The deadline to process a return is April 14, 2017. 

Spring 2017 Loan Increases
If you are finding that you need additional funds for educational related expenses such as rent over the summer and you did not borrow your full loan offer, the deadline to request additional funds is April 14, 2017. Request for loan increases are done by appointment only on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday between the hours of 9:30 am – 3:30 pm.

I-Corps
I-Corps is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Initiative that engages participants in exploring their ideas and research deeply by talking to potential customers, partners and competitors and encountering the challenges and uncertainty of creating successful innovations. This workshop provides tools and guidance to help validate (or invalidate) a business model for maximizing the number people your research or concept impacts. 2017 Interprofessional Patient Management Competition (IPMC)
The IPMC focuses on promoting interprofessional collaboration among our professional students at the University of Maryland, allowing them to apply their patient care knowledge and skills to an interprofessional patient case. IPE at UMB – Your Input is Appreciated
The Center for Interprofessional Education will be hosting a 90-minute forum for the UMB community on Thursday, March 16 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the School of Nursing Auditorium. Match Day
Your Match Day tickets are available! You MUST have a ticket for yourself. Stop by OSA and pick them up! Please be considerate and only pick up the number of tickets that you need. Additionally, the AAMC hopes your school will participate in the Match Day frenzy by following and posting to Twitter using either or both of the two hashtags: #iMatched and #Match2017. Please let OSA know if you will NOT be participating in Match Day.

Regalia
Any student that is participating in graduation is required to wear a cap and gown. Please visit https://oakhalli.com/colleges/umaryland to order regalia. The deadline to order regalia is May 4, 2017. To order, please follow these instructions:

Graduation Fair
The graduation fair will be on April 3rd and 4th from 12 pm - 6 pm outside the University Store in the SMC Campus Center. They will be selling rings, announcements and diploma frames. 

Graduation
Graduation will take place on Thursday, May 18, 2017, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Students should arrive no later than 9:00 am to line up with their class. There will be a lunch reception following the ceremony. You will have 9 tickets including one for yourself. (1 for you, 8 for your guests) Please let OSA know if you will NOT be attending graduation.

Please email OSA if you need wheelchair accommodations.

Diplomas
Students may claim their diplomas at the end of the university commencement ceremony. Diplomas not claimed at the commencement ceremony may be claimed for a period of two weeks from the Office of the Registrar with a valid photo ID during normal business hours. After the two-week period, the Office of the Registrar will mail any remaining diplomas directly to the students beginning the week of June 5.

Match Day 2017
We need volunteers for Match Day! Match Day is March 17, 2017, at the Hippodrome Theater. We will need volunteers between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm. You don’t need to stay the whole time, just let OSA know when you are available! You can also certainly help yourself to the light breakfast that will be served. If you are interested and available, please email OSA. Wear your white coat and be a part of this very special day!

To get your complimentary VSAS/ERAS photo taken, you should report to the Photo and Graphics Group.

Call the day you plan to have your shoot to confirm the photographers are available.
Remember to dress professionally. Wear what you would wear to a residency interview.
Your potential, future program directors will be viewing these photos. The background is usually white.
Guys: Please arrive at the photo shoot prepared. Wear your jacket and tie. Shave/get haircuts etc. before the photo shoot.
Ladies: Please dress appropriately for the photo shoot. Most students wear shirts (not low-cut) and jackets. The photographers can’t completely re-touch your hairstyle, so come with your hair looking very nice.
Everyone: Scrubs are not appropriate.
Also, the photographers are very busy…No re-shoots!
Don’t wait until the last minute!

University of Rochester Visiting Clerkship Program
Three funded visiting clerkship positions are available at the University of Rochester Medical Center from August through November of 2017 for select applicants from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine (URM) or who have a demonstrated vision and commitment to improving the health status of diverse patient populations via patient care, research and/or teaching. Penn Visiting Clerkships for Students Underrepresented in Medicine
The Penn Visiting Clerkship for Students Underrepresented in Medicine provides numerous opportunities for students to rotate in competitive, top-ranked residency programs. Students learn first-hand what it is like to be a resident in these institutions while benefiting from mentorship from resident, fellows, and faculty. 2017 Minority Senior Scholarship Program at Children’s National Health Center
The Minority Senior Scholarship Program (MSSP) is a one-month experience that was established in 2015 to address the goal of enhancing the diversity of academic pediatricians through exposing senior medical students from races and ethnicities underrepresented in medicine (URM) to academic pediatrics. Through advanced clinical exposure, networking, mentoring, and special sessions, participants are armed with the resources and information needed to confidently make decisions regarding their future training and to better serve diverse populations of children. Michigan Health Equity Visiting Clerkship Program
The Office of Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI) at Michigan Medicine invites interested medical students to apply to the Michigan Health Equity Visiting Clerkship Program. Medical Students in their final year of medical school with a career interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion may apply for the 4-week visiting clerkship. 10th Annual Residency Showcase at Northwestern -- Travel Stipends Available

Class of 2019

Mask-Fit Testing
Mask-Fit Testing UMMC EHS will conduct respirator medical clearance and fit testing for medical students until March 21, 2017.

UMMC EHS will reserve appointments at 1:00 pm, 1:40 pm, 2:00 pm, 2:40 pm, 3:00 pm and 3:20 pm from Monday through Friday in this period. Students will be expected to call and schedule the appointment at 410-328-6151. Please do not wait until the last moment!  There will be no extensions.

Male students should be clean shaven in order to be fit tested, if not clean shaven, they will be instructed on the use of the powered air purifying respirator (PAPR). Female students with long hair should have a hair band/rubber band to hold hair (out of the way) to facilitate fit testing.

Students must complete the OSHA Respiratory Questionnaire in advance and bring it to the appointment. Any student who arrives without the completed questionnaire may be rescheduled, as this may adversely impact the appointment schedule. Any student who arrives late for an appointment may be rescheduled. Additionally, students need to be able to provide information about flu vaccination. UMMC has a mandatory flu vaccination policy to which students are expected to adhere. UMMC will be asking questions about flu vaccination when the student calls for the fit test appointment. If a student has not been vaccinated, UMMC can provide flu vaccination. This information has to be reported to CMS.

EPIC Training
Please make sure to complete your EPIC Training by March 31, 2017. Also, please stop by OSA to sign off on your access form. This is mandatory for your third-year clerkship rotations.
