Mayo Clinic Internal Medicine Residency Program
If you are interested in Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic wanted to highlight several aspects of their program that make it an ideal place to train. As the world’s first integrated, multispecialty group practice and a leader in clinical care, research and education, residents at Mayo Clinic train in a highly supportive and collaborative environment that fosters the highest standard of medical care. Mayo Clinic established one of the world’s first formalized physician training programs in 1915; since that time, the Internal Medicine Residency has had a long track record of transforming great medical students into outstanding physicians, educators, and scientists:

  • Their residents graduate with an average of 2.5 peer-reviewed publications (national average 0.6)
  • Of their residents seeking subspecialty training, > 90% match into one of their top 3 program choices
  • Mayo Clinic Rochester provides primary care for over 140,000 local residents, including a large underserved population, giving their trainees a broad training experience from longitudinal care of community patients to tertiary care of referred patients

The curriculum includes daily didactic sessions on clinical care as well as structured programs to develop our residents as educators and life-long learners. From their involvement in IPASS to ensure safe hand-offs to our participation in PACER to enhance interprofessional education in primary care, their program is on the forefront of innovation in graduate medical education as we prepare physicians to practice in the healthcare system of the future. Furthermore, there are vast opportunities for our residents to participate in cutting-edge basic and clinical research with their world-renown faculty.

If you are interested in a career in Internal Medicine or its subspecialties, Mayo Clinic has visiting clerkships available. If you are interested in a residency program, please visit: http://www.mayo.edu/msgme/residencies-fellowships/internal-medicine-and-subspecialties/internal-medicine-residency-minnesota. Please contact Mayo Clinic with any questions.
