Palliative Medicine Physicians (Positions 3-309-806 & 860)
The University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking one full time and one part-time (50%) palliative medicine physicians for our expanding clinical program. Duties will include both inpatient activities as well as development of an outpatient program. Opportunities for teaching are available. Successful candidates will be board certified/eligible in Palliative Medicine, with a strong interest in teaching and clinical experience in Palliative Medicine. Additionally, the full time position will have the added responsibilities as serving as the Medical Director of this service.
The Palliative Medicine Program at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is ten years old and currently functions under the direction of Dr. Jeanette Abell, MD, MBA, SFHM with a team of RNs, NPs and a dedicated Clinical Pharmacist. The practitioners serve as expert palliative consultants to the UMMC’s multi-disciplinary service teams, adding care quality and cost saving value. Please see our websites for additional information:

- Supported by: Cancer Center Medical Director and Vice President; physician directors of our Medical and Surgical ICUs; Shock Trauma Center Director; Hospital Chief Medical Officer and Nursing leadership; Chairs of Internal and Family Medicine.
- Quality: Routine collection of operational data; project integration with Medical ICU
- Research: Strong foundation and support exists for grant funding to further interdisciplinary Palliative Medicine research.
Hospitalist Physicians (Positions 3-309-896/897)
These positions require a medical degree from a recognized accredited domestic university (or foreign equivalent) and successful candidates must be eligible for an unrestricted Maryland medical license. Most of our hospitalist teams provide 24/7 coverage of patients with a variety of medical conditions. Additional opportunities to serve in unique specialty areas (CCU, Intermediate Care, Medical Admissions Officer, Solid Organ Transplant and Traditional Academic Teaching Services) are available.
Ideal candidates will possess outstanding clinical and teaching skills and a strong commitment to patient care, will be BE/BC in Internal Medicine and work well in a team setting.
Hospitalist/Nocturnist (Position 3-309-902)
The General Internal Medicine Division in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine has an opening for a HOSPITALIST (NOCTURNIST). This position will work 14 shifts every 28 days. Duties include coverage of the Advanced Heart Failure (AHF) service with fellow backup and will encompass work up of new admissions and coverage of existing patients, placing central lines and arterial catheters. Cardiology attendings are also available as needed to assist with diagnosis and treatment plans. There may be opportunities for teaching of interns and residents on the primary cardiology service if one of their patients becomes unstable or if they are uncomfortable/unsuccessful performing procedures. Qualified candidates will be BE/BC in internal medicine. Although this is a general Internal Medicine hospitalist position, those interested in applying for Cardiology fellowship are encouraged to apply. Adequate comfort level with EKG's and signs of arrhythmias and decompensation is strongly desired.
