Research Interests

My major academic and research interests involve investigations in critical care, with a particular focus on the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.  I also have a major focus on the ethics of clinical research.  Specific topics include the enrollment of decisionally impaired subjects in critical care research, informed consent, and selection of control groups in critical care research.  Internationally, I am involved with providing research ethics training to individuals from the Middle East with a particular focus on Egypt.  The aim of this training program is to enhance research ethics capacity in developing countries
