Clinical

The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition provides comprehensive management for endocrine disorders and diabetes.

Care is provided by the Division’s seven diabetologists along with a full-time staff of 18 health professionals (diabetes educators, dietitians, medical technologists, and office staff), an exercise physiologist, a podiatrist, an ophthalmologist, a psychiatrist, and other health care professionals.

Joslin Diabetes Center

The University of Maryland has made a major commitment to the development of a world-class diabetes program by partnering with the Joslin Diabetes Center. Directed by Dr. Thomas Donner, The Joslin Diabetes Center is a 10,605 square foot state-of-the-art clinical facility is located on the 6th floor of the University of Maryland Medical Center. The Joslin Diabetes Center provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care for large numbers of patients with diabetes.

Outpatient Clinics

The Division’s clinical faculty practice see patients with a wide variety of endocrine disorders including thyroid, bone, pituitary, adrenal, and reproductive disorders at the University of Maryland Faculty Practice Offices. In addition,the faculty supervise Endocrine Fellows and rotating medical residents and medical students in the outpatient clinics including University of Maryland Endocrine Clinic, the Thyroid Nodule and Cancer Clinic, VAMC Diabetes Clinic, VAMC Endocrine Clinic, VAMC Bone Clinic, and Adult Genetics Clinic.

Consult Service

The Division runs an active 24 x 7 in-patient consult service at both University of Maryland Medical Center and the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center for endocrine disorders and diabetes. The in-patient program includes a half-time diabetes nurse educator who provides diabetes education and management for patients with diabetes as they transition to the out-patient setting.
