John Beale Davidge Alliance
Alumni, faculty and friends who make contributions to the School of Medicine of $10,000 and above are recognized as members of the John Beale Davidge Alliance, a permanent recognition society. The Alliance is named after the School of Medicine's founder and first dean, John Beale Davidge, who in 1812 raised the necessary capital to fund construction of the school's first medical building. (Find Out More About Davidge Hall and Medical Alumni Association.)
There are three honors levels within the Alliance: The Elm Society recognized donors for gifts of $10,000-$24,999. The Silver Circle recognizes gifts from $25,000-$49,999. The 1807 Circle is for those who make contributions of $50,000 and above. The exceptional support provided by these individuals enables the school to continue the tradition it began in 1807 of educating top-quality physicians and providing the best possible care for patients.
Frank C. Bressler Legacy Council
The Frank C. Bressler Legacy Council honors alumni, faculty, grateful patients and other friends who have made provisions through their estate plans or other planned giving vehicles to support the University of Maryland School of Medicine or the Medical Alumni Association. It serves to recognize those individuals who have demonstrated a special, long-term commitment to the School of Medicine and to promote and encourage the transformational lifetime philanthropy that ensures our tradition of excellence continues for generations to come.
The Council is named in honor of the late Frank C. Bressler, MD. A member of the Class of 1885, Dr. Bressler left $1.2 million in a bequest to benefit the University of Maryland School of Medicine upon his death in 1935. Dr. Bressler's bequest, realized during the troubled time of the Great Depression, provided the school with a truly exceptional sum for the day. Dr. Bressler's decision to arrange for this extraordinary deferred gift during his lifetime transformed research, teaching and patient care at the School of Medicine.
