Department Of Epidemiology And Preventive Medicine

The Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (DEPM) is dedicated to improving the health of the public by training medical students, graduate students and health professionals, conducting research that has a significant impact on people's lives and serving as a resource to the University, the state and the broader community. DEPM researchers focus their attention on the issues critical to the health of the public. Clinical and community intervention studies are directed toward the causes and prevention of infectious and chronic diseases and other public health threats. Behavioral change research focuses on establishing and maintaining a healthy life style for targeted "at risk" populations. Environmental toxins and genetic risk factors associated with disability are areas of active research both within the state of Maryland and overseas.
