Dr. Eckert with Ms. Kathleen Reinecke (Dr. Eckert’s administrative assistant, an invaluable help in this effort).

Richard Eckert, PhD, Chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, received the Association of Medical and Graduate Departments of Biochemistry Distinguished Service Award at the 2018 annual meeting in Panama City, Panama.  This is the national association of biochemistry chairs.  Dr. Eckert has served in multiple leadership roles, including as president.

Dr. Aikaterini Kontrogianni-Konstantopoulos, Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, UMSOM, was awarded the Dr. Patricia Sokolove Outstanding Mentor Award at the Graduate School's Doctoral Hooding Ceremony in May 2018.  The Graduate Student Association established the Dr. Patricia Sokolove Outstanding Mentor Award to honor those who put forth great effort in aiding and mentoring graduate students. Dr. Kontrogianni was nominated by her students, Alyssa Grogan, Janelle Hauserman and Talia Guardia.
