Division of Nephrology
As a Division, we are committed to providing excellence in patient care, Research and to training of the next generation of Renal Physicians.
Clinical Care: The Division of Nephrology maintains active clinical programs at the University of Maryland Medical Center, the Baltimore VA Medical Center, and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Our faculty has expertise in all facets of kidney disease including management of acute and chronic kidney disease, dialysis management, genetic kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, complicated hypertension management and electrolyte and acid base disorders. The Division participates in a large multi organ transplant program with services at both at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the VA.
Research: Our faculty is dedicated to understanding the basic biology of the kidney and to translating our discoveries to new therapeutic strategies. The division and our close collaborators in Physiology, the Division of Transplantation, and Radiation Biology focus on several aspects of renal biology including Cystic Kidney Diseases, microvascular function, Transplant immunology, and renal radiation injury. The Division is home to the Baltimore Polycystic Kidney Disease Research and Clinical Core Center, the Early Renal Insufficiency Program, the Safe Kidney Care Program, and the Transplant Clinical Research Center.
Fellowship Training Program: Our fellowship program trains outstanding renal physicians who will devote their careers to patient care or academic nephrology. We provide outstanding and comprehensive training in all aspects of clinical nephrology. In addition to a two-year standard fellowship program and a combined three year Nephrology and Critical Care program, we offer a three year research track with opportunities for both laboratory and clinical investigation.
