Phase one implementation: Exchange Online & Skype For Business

The University of Maryland School of Medicine Office of Information Services implemented Office 365 in 2016. Exchange Online and Skype for Business is currently available for anyone with an existing @som.umaryland.edu email address. The Exchange (Outlook) online benefits include an increase in the standard mailbox size from 2 GB to 100 GB (in addition, we can add an additional Online Archive that can be added to any mailbox to give unlimited online and backed up email storage) an updated look and enhanced capabilities within Outlook Web Access (https://mail.som.umaryland.edu).   Skype for Business provides a way for you to connect with co-workers via Instant Messaging, video conference, and document sharing and collaborating.  We’re really excited about this change, and hope you’ll like it! 

At this time all School of Medicine all SOM users mailboxes have been migrated to Office 365. We are currently migrating tenant organizations to Office 365. If you have any questions regarding availability, please contact your local helpdesk. In the meantime, see our Office 365 web pages for information about Office 365 Exchange/Outlook and Skype for Business.  Check back frequently for information on additional Office 365 features that will become available beyond phase one of this project. 


Phase two implementation: OneDrive for Business & Office 365 Groups

OneDrive for Business and Office 365 Groups will be rolling out in the first half of 2017. We are currently testing these new products internally and will start beta testing with staff on/around Feb 2016. If you would like to be included as a beta user please contact the SOM Help Desk. These new features will greatly increase collaboration efforts within the School of Medicine, but also with your external partners.
