Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs)
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists at the University of Maryland provide quality care to patients in our General Operating Rooms (GOR) and the world-renowned R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. The “team approach” to anesthesia care is the result of a collaborative relationship between CRNAs and supervising anesthesiologists.
Our General Operating Room is a 23-bed OR that averages 13,000 anesthetics a year. Here, CRNAs provide anesthesia for all types of surgical procedures including Plastics, Vascular, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Transplant, ENT, Ophthalmology, Urology, GYN, Thoracic and General Surgery. Any and all procedures related to the anesthetic plan are performed by our CRNAs.
The world’s first and foremost trauma facility and the nation’s only freestanding trauma hospital, R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, is the cornerstone of Maryland’s Emergency Medical Trauma System.
The Section of Trauma Anesthesiology performs more than 6,000 anesthetics each year, and is the only anesthesia group in the country with a practice focused specifically on traumatic injury.
University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) provides excellent opportunities for CRNA’s who enjoy teaching clinically and didactically.
UMMC serves as a primary clinical site for students enrolled in the Nurse Anesthesia Program at the University Of Maryland School Of Nursing. Additionally, nurse anesthesia students from around the country participate in trauma anesthesia rotations at the Shock Trauma Center.
As our CRNA program continues to expand, we are seeking qualified applicants dedicated to advancing the art and science of anesthesia in our challenging academic environment.
