2017 Department Picnic and Crab Feast
On July 29, 2017, the Department of Anesthesiology hosted the annual Department Picnic and Crab Feast at Patapsco State Park.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans for us that morning. A severe overnight thunderstorm had damaged the Patapsco State Park Avalon area: closing roads, downing trees, and putting the annual picnic in danger of cancellation.
A swollen Patapsco River shows the story. Park Rangers and BGE crews worked feverishly to open the Avalon area by 1 pm. They eventually allowed the pavilion renters access (meaning us!) into the park.
Cars line up at the park entrance waiting for the go ahead to proceed into the park.
Faculty and staff brave the rain to gather for the annual Department of Anesthesiology Summer Picnic and Crab Feast.
The catering staff gets right to work to steam the crabs.
We’re ready!
Denise Johnson, Derrick Park and his fiancée, Rosa Kim, are happy to be attending the 2017 ANES summer picnic.
The picnic buffet pleases young and old alike. The Mac-and-Cheese was great.
Here they come!
A sigh of contentment descends on the pavilion.
Only a Marylander appreciates this aftermath.
What a great turnout of ANES faculty, staff and families.
Face painting by Kassie Utz and balloons by Julie Utz keep the younger crowd happy.
The sun shines at the 11th hour.
Too many choices.
