2016 Holiday Giving Program

This holiday, the Department of Anesthesiology supported Akoben Foundation, facilitators of the after-school Reading, Rhythm, and the Arts, literacy program conducted at Lyndhurst Elementary School. Our department faculty and staff generously donated a grand total of $10,365.00 to this year’s project.

The department was able to order 30 Ipad Mini tablets, a charging cart to secure and charge the IPads, cases to protect the tablets for young users and 60 copies of “Where the Wild Things Are” that made a great impact at the Reading, Rhythm and Arts holiday party. The Department’s generosity is going to make it easier for the afterschool literacy program to work with the Pre-K to 3rd graders on perfecting their reading skills with their preferred reading software while exposing their young scholars to 21st century computer skills, building a second kind of literacy as a bonus.

In return Ryan Turner, the Executive Director and Bill Blatt, the Chairman of the Akoben Foundation, Inc. presented the Department of Anesthesiology with a Certificate of Appreciation, “for your unwavering commitment to ameliorate childhood illiteracy in America’s urban communities alongside The Akoben Foundation, Inc.” The Akoben board and Reading, Rhythm and the Arts staff sends our department a heartfelt thank you for selecting their group as the recipients of our 2016 Holiday Giving Project.
